The Bachelor of Design Arts (BDA) was developed for exclusive delivery by the Academy of Design. It is one of only two undergraduate degrees in Design Arts available in Australia, and the only such degree offered in Victoria.
The BDA boasts a range of features, including:
Since ancient times, philosophers have recognised that theory informs practice. The Contextual Studies program applies this ethos to design-arts education by presenting students with opportunities to think about the cultural and historical underpinnings of their contemporary disciplines.
Students are brought together from different disciplines to investigate design for industry, visual culture studies, cinema studies, design philosophy, media semiotics, and cross-disciplinary practices.
By empowering students with the tools for analysing design around the globe, Contextual Studies subjects help students develop their skills as thoughtful and astute visual communicators who recognize the rich interplays of intellectual discussion and hands-on creativity in a technologically-driven society.
