Career Support

Developing Employability at the Academy

The Academy aims to produce graduates who are job ready, with both the specific skills required to gain employment in their chosen area of design and the broader underpinning attributes required to develop their career over the long term.

This commitment is reflected in the structure of the Bachelor of Design Arts, which includes a series of Professional Studies units across the degree. The Professional Studies stream culminates in the Academy's Industry Placement Program, enabling students to gain on-the-job experience and build industry contacts as part of their studies.

The majority of our academic faculty are also practicing professionals with strong industry links. This ensures that our students are provided with the most up-to-date and relevant skills and knowledge to prepare them for their future career. Students seeking further career advice can arrange one-on-one meetings with their major study coordinator.

The Academy maintains further links with creative professionals in the industry through its Industry Advisory Panels in the areas of:

These Industry Advisory Panels ensure the course curriculum remains relevant and aligned with current and emerging industry practice. The strength of the Academy's approach is demonstrated at the end of each year, in the dozens of design professionals and industry figures who attend the Graduating Students' Exhibition and Industry Showcase.

Placement Agencies

Australia does not have a wide selection of job placement agencies for creative careers. One of the few specialist firms for creative jobs is Aquent, which is the world's largest talent agency for creative, web design, and technology professionals, with offices in more than 50 cities and 10 countries. It has an office in Melbourne. Aquent maintains a large listing of job openings on their 'Find Work' page, and provides several online Services.
